Very unfair expectations...the Korean team was not of standard anyway. Even though there were a lot of "star names" such as Son Heung Min, Koo Ja Cheol, Ki Sung Yong, Lee Chung Yong and maybe Park Chu Young, their overall scoring ability was too weak. Combining that with a back line that cannot seem to defend as a unit means that they would always struggle to win matches. Their best hope was to keep it tight like Algeria or Iran, and knick a goal on the counter. Pinning their hopes on Hong to lead this team to the knockout stages was always a tough ask. Someone above mentioned already, if a team like Japan, who are better on every level than Korea, can finish bottom of their group, why should Korea expect more? ...
